Bally's Atlantic City is asking the National Labor Relations Board to set aside results of a recent election in which dealers voted 628-255 for union representation, alleging that the United Auto Workers union unfairly interfered.
In papers filed with the board on Monday, their deadline to do so, Bally's named 10 objections to the union's conduct. Allegations included that the union's agents, supporters and representatives:
- threatened voters who did not support them.
- offered voters "things of value" to induce them to vote in the union's favor.
- threatened voters that if they did not sign a document supporting the UAW, they would be "the first to go" after the union won the election.
- And failure of the union personnel in charge of conducting the election to enforce the labor relation board's rules regarding election conduct in the polling area.
The union and casino could not immediately be reached for comment.

Why Unions Want Card Check
Even when we overwhelmingly win elections, we still have to wait to have a union. This will be drawn out for another year and by then only half of these dealers will still be there.

Even if EFCA were to pass, the casino could challenge the cards if they were gathered in the same fashion as is alleged.
Of course, you (like some of my old comrades) probably adhere to the old (Soviet) union adage the ends-justify-the-means, which is one of the reasons I left the union movement.

I think the point you anti-worker types like to make is that EFCA takes away the vaunted "secret ballot" that you would have us believe is the foundation of all civilization.
Now, as far as I can tell this election was via the secret ballot. The results are pretty clear. No one doubts that these workers want to be represented by a union. Rather than accept that, your friends will delay, delay, delay and fire, fire, fire, until their friends on the NLRB order a new election or fine them some small amount.
Now, neither of us were at the Bally's election. Allegedly a union rep pointed to the "yes" box on the ballot. How this compels a worker to vote yes in the privacy of the booth is beyond me. The union threatened to fire workers that vote "no"? How does the union fire workers exactly?
If you are a former union organizer, as you represent yourself to be, you know that it is employers that threaten to fire people for voting "yes" to a union.
Now, we are engaged in a discussion here. Feel free to continue it, if you would like, but please don't post any more anti-worker propaganda. I know that I am way too smart for that, as are the people who read my blog. If you want to believe that the employer is your friend and the union is your enemy, go right ahead, but it won't fly here.
