Finally, An End to the Longing

Stand-up comedian and wingnut Ari David despairs. He mostly despairs because Obama is president. His despair stems mostly from his fervent belief that an Obama presidency spells doom for all the world's peoples that are not as free you and me here in the US. You know, in Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, North Korea, and Kenya. You know, all the places that the last 28 years of conservative rule in this country liberated. Unfortunately, Obama doesn't seem to care about these oppressed peoples because at some point he unilaterally declared that he will not use the military for support US foreign policy (which does seem foolish).

But it's not all doom and gloom in the David household.
I was not unhappy at all to see black people in America celebrate Obama’s electoral accomplishment. I have believed for many years now that Dr. King’s dream of overcoming was a reality for all people in this country but if it took a man of color to ascend to our nation’s highest office to prove it to black people, I celebrate their happiness. If Obama’s election means an end to racial strife and an end to people longing for equality in our country, then I celebrate that too.
Yes, I think that we can all agree that if Obama's election ends the longing for equality in this country it won't have been all for naught.
